JOHN D. GROSS, 75, passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, from the effects of Parkinson's Disease at Majestic Care in New Haven. Born in Fort Wayne, John was the son of the late Robert S. and Agnes C. Gross. He spent 67 summers going to Big Long Lake in Wolcottville, Ind., and was a true "laker." He was a graduate of North Side High School and earned his Bachelor's degree from Indiana University. John was a devoted IU football and basketball fan. John joined the U.S. Army immediately following his college graduation and served as a S/Sgt in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in combat, the Army Commendation Medal with Valor, as well as two Purple Hearts. After returning to Fort Wayne, John began his accounting career with Fruehauf Trailer and retired as a Financial Analyst with General Dynamics. John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia Gross; daughters, Sara Gross of Baltimore, Md., and Amy (Nick) Stephenson; grandsons, Preston and Spencer Stephenson who brought him great joy; and brothers, R. Steven (Donna) Gross of Big Long Lake, Frank (Paula) Gross of Bradenton, Fla., and Greg (Micheale) of Fort Wayne. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at FairHaven Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St., with calling from noon until the service.
